The MERCEDES-BENZ A CLASS (1998-04) is a compact five-door hatchback with a notably tall, space-conscious shape. It brought Mercedes-Benz into the small-car market, offering an upmarket badge and an upright cabin in a package suited to UK streets and tight parking. Mycarcheck.com has recorded 3,319 look-ups across 1,844 distinct VINs, a substantial sample for this older model. That compact footprint and flexible interior make the A-Class useful for commuting, errands and occasional family trips; it can suit first-time drivers or buyers wanting a small car with a premium feel. Its high seating position and airy cabin help it feel roomier than its outside size suggests, while its distinctive shape stands apart from more conventional small hatchbacks such as the Ford Fiesta or Vauxhall Corsa. Checks show average 81,000 recorded miles, 5,000 miles driven annually and £600 private-sale value, with just over four previous keepers, so inspect carefully before buying one.
