Through the development of the Ford Focus, Ford set out to create a single compact vehicle that could be sold worldwide. So successful were they, that the Ford Focus Mark 1 was awarded the European Car of the Year award in 1999. Succeeding the Ford Escort, the Ford Focus has gone on to become one of the most popular compact vehicles.
