My Motorcycle Check top tips for UK used motorbike buyers in January and February, including bike of the month: Kawasaki ZX9R
- 12% increase in new bike registrations last year
- Concern over lack of new people entering the market
- Never pay cash, trust your gut feeling and check before you buy
“The surprisingly versatile Kawasaki ZX9R offers fantastic used value” - Rob Hobson
My Motorcycle Check – the UK’s No.1 motorbike and scooter provenance website – has saved many a biker from making an expensive two-wheeled mistake. In these monthly bulletins its Valuation Team’s experts reveal significant trends in the UK market and choose a ‘bike of the month’.
My Motorcycle Check’s Rob Hobson said: “Unfairly overlooked when it first launched, largely due to strong competition from the R1 and GSXR 1000, the surprisingly versatile Kawasaki ZX9R offers fantastic used value, not only as a sports bike but also as a tourer. Watch out for gearbox issues and, as always, check to make sure the one you’re looking at is what it claims to be, especially when buying privately.”
As to market trends, Hobson said: “Following a 12% increase in new bike registrations last year, and a relatively strong used sector, most in the trade seem reasonably optimistic that the upward trend can continue.
“Attendance figures were reportedly down at last month’s Motorcycle Live, although feedback suggested it was a positive show with a good vibe about it. There are some very exciting new bikes in niche sectors but, while new sales may be up, there is real concern about the lack of new people entering the market.
“The used market has slowed in terms of overall demand, but values have remained relatively strong. Expect demand to pick up sharply as soon as the weather improves.”
