Scrambler, MT07 and Shiver 750 praised as market picks up
MyMotorCycleCheck.com — the UK’s No.1 motorbike and scooter provenance website — has saved many a biker from making an expensive two-wheeled mistake. In these monthly bulletins its Valuation Team’s expert reveals significant trends in the UK market and suggests three wise buys:
- Highly desirable: Ducati Scrambler.
- Safe bet: Yamaha MT07.
- Used star: Aprilia Shiver 750.
MyMotorCycleCheck.com’s Rob Hobson commented: “For our highly desirable model this month we’ve chosen the Ducati Scrambler. The first of these are just being delivered now, so any examples hitting the used market are sure to generate a lot of interest. A word of warning: when looking at any newish secondhand bike it is always worth checking that it is free of debt, i.e. that it actually belongs to the seller and not a finance company.
“In terms of bikes that hold their value, safe bets don’t come much safer than the Yamaha MT-07. Most importantly, it is a really good bike. Then there’s the money side. Thanks to the relatively low retail price, if you buy a nearly new used example, which has had its initial depreciation, then it should hold its value well. As always, do your homework and check before you buy.
“For our used star we’ve chosen the Aprilia Shiver 750. This bike is often overlooked in the used market but can be picked up fairly cheaply and is a great all rounder. If you haven’t done so, we’d definitely recommend testing one. When it comes to negotiating, remember, as well as revealing a bike’s history, MyMotorCycleCheck.com also provides valuations — a great tool for haggling with dealers or private sellers.”
As to market trends, Hobson commented: “The used market has already started to pick up and showroom enquiries are reportedly good. Values remain strong across the board and we expect both trade bids and retail values to increase once the threat of bad weather recedes.
“Next week sees the introduction of another new registration, with 15 plate bikes on our roads from 1 March. Recent history has shown that demand is often dealer-led. Many customers just want their bikes as soon as possible, ideally to coincide with the new season and the arrival of milder weather.”
