A6 Quattro, Fiat 500, BMW X6 praised as 64 plate boosts market
MyCarCheck.com - the UK’s No.1 consumer vehicle data provider - has saved millions of people from making an expensive used car mistake. In these monthly bulletins its used car experts reveal significant trends in the UK market and suggest three wise buys.
- Highly desirable: Audi A6 Avant Quattro
- Safe bet: Fiat 500
- Used star: BMW X6
Head of Valuation Services at MyCarCheck.com, Gavin Amos, commented: “Our highly desirable model this month is the Audi A6 Avant Quattro. For us, the standout model is the 3.0 TDI V6 245 PS S-Line Auto, but they’re all really good. Although some used examples can have high mileage this car can carry them with ease. So long as you do a history check to ensure the one you’re looking at is what it claims to be – for instance, that it isn’t still on finance – the A6 Avant Quattro has a lot going for it.
“In terms of cars that hold their value, safe bets don’t come much safer than the Fiat 500. There is no shortage of competition in this sector, but the cute little Fiat still turns heads. A clean one-owner example should prove to be both practical and fun. As always, do your homework and check before you buy.
“For our ‘used star’ this month we’ve chosen the BMW X6. This mid-sized luxury crossover tends to suffer heavy depreciation from new, so a used example with this factored-in can represent fantastic value. When it comes to negotiating, remember, as well as revealing a car’s history, MyCarCheck.com also provides vehicle valuations – a great tool for haggling with dealers or private sellers.”
As to market trends, Amos commented: “Car dealers always look forward to the extra activity of a ‘new plate month’ and September proved to be no different. So, what does this mean for used cars? The cabriolet market naturally shrinks at this time of year, but across the board values remain buoyant.
“Dealer workshops are under pressure throughout September, meeting the day-to-day retail demands as well as preparing new vehicles for delivery. As such, the part exchanges are often left on the backburner. In October the focus goes back onto used car sales, getting these part exchange vehicles prepared and advertised for sale.
“As we head towards winter, many trade buyers will be considering what represents ‘the right stock’ to have on their pitch. 4x4s tend to remain strong towards the end of the year, although many dealers were stung last winter having stocked up ready for snow that never came. This year we think there’ll be far less stocking up in advance, so 4x4 values will soar if severe weather returns with a vengeance.
“With the announcement of the new Land Rover Discovery Sport, Jaguar Land Rover finally has a new compact SUV to replace the aging Freelander. The brand is very much on a high and the Discovery Sport looks like being another very significant model. Meanwhile, the Freelander continues to demand high values in the used arena.”
