Evoque, Golf & Passat praised as high demand continues
MyCarCheck.com - the UK’s No.1 consumer vehicle data provider - has saved millions of people from making an expensive used car mistake. In these monthly bulletins its used car experts reveal significant trends in the UK market and suggest three wise buys.
- Highly desirable: Range Rover Evoque
- Safe bet: VW Golf
- Used star: VW Passat
Head of Valuation Services at MyCarCheck.com, Gavin Amos, commented: “When it comes to luxury SUVs the Range Rover Evoque is in a class of its own. There was a buzz about it even before it was launched and promoted by Victoria Beckham. 18 months later it is still one of the most desirable cars around. So long as you carry out a history check to ensure the one you’re looking at is what it claims to be – for instance, that it hasn’t been clocked and isn’t still on finance – then this is a car worth paying a premium for.
“In terms of cars that hold their value, safe bets don’t come much safer than the VW Golf. This car sets the benchmark in the hatchback sector, but due to their high performance nature it is well worth checking that R32, R and GTI models in particular haven’t been previously written-off.
“For our ‘used star’ this month I’ve chosen the stylish and spacious VW Passat. This car was considered pretty pricey new but used examples in good nick are eminently affordable, some might say a bargain. When it comes to negotiating on price, remember, as well as revealing a car’s history, MyCarCheck.com also provides vehicle valuations – a great tool for haggling with dealers or private sellers.”
As to market trends, Amos commented: “As winter draws in, new and used car sales tend to dip, but this year seems to be different. Usually by November consumers are looking ahead to Christmas and all the expense that goes with it. However, dealers are telling us that many buyers are still out trawling the forecourts, especially on Saturdays and Sundays. There is a strong thirst for used cars that even the rainy weather can’t dampen.
“The seasonal boom in the 4x4 market is well under way, with dealerships stocking up on these fashionable ‘go anywhere’ vehicles in preparation for bad weather reaction buyers.
“Buyers still seem keen on diesel power even if they don’t need the increase in economy due to low usage. In terms of new technologies, hybrid hasn’t seen much uptake as used car buyers have become very wary about potential repair costs. Even cars such as Touareg Hybrid aren’t moving quickly and certainly aren’t demanding a premium.”
