A second-hand car dealer, a Mr. Michael Barry Adams, trading as Rugby Road Car Sales of Rochdale, was fined £1,250 plus costs at Bolton Crown Court for two offences brought under the Trade Descriptions Act.
Mr. Adams admitted two offences under the Trades Description Act. One offence was for applying a false description to a BMW 525 which Mr. Adams claimed had been driven only 47,900 miles. But it emerged that the vehicles genuine mileage was in fact 141,698 miles. Mr. Adams also stated that the full service history of the BMW vehicle existed but in reality no genuine service history was ever produced by him.
The prosecution that was brought by Trading Standards came about by a complaint made by the purchaser who had travelled all the way from North Wales after seeing the advert for vehicle in the North West Autotrader. A spokeswoman said: "Mr. Adams has paid the price for falling below the standard of conduct expected of a professional car dealer."
