Cars that do less than 35 miles to the gallon should be banned from all roads within the EU, claims a former chairman of Shell.
Sir Mark Moody-Stuart said that instead of making motorists pay more in road and fuel tax due to less fuel-efficient cars, there should be a crackdown on car manufacturers who refuse to build more environmentally friendly vehicles.
Sir Mark said that unless tougher laws were introduced to curb the car makers, rich people would continue to drive gas-guzzling vehicles and buy their way out of taking responsibility for tackling climate change.
