Drivers face parking fine increases four times rate of inflation
The level of parking fines imposed on motorists across the UK has risen almost four times the rate of inflation.
Last year local authorities collected more than £173 million in Penalty Charge Notices – a 7.7 per cent increase on the previous year, amounting to more than £12.5 million.
Since local authorities in England and Wales took over parking enforcement from the police motorists have found themselves being increasingly punished for the shortage of parking spaces in many towns and cities.
