After a prospective buyer purchased a vehicle for over £8,000 from Manheim car auctions in Birmingham, who sold the vehicle as "all good" he later ran a check with mycarcheck.com only to find out that the vehicle had been stolen and recovered, after calling mycarcheck customer services it was revealed that the vehicle had been stolen and damaged, it had received a new bonnet new wheels and tyres, all keys, new seat, rear bumper and re-sprayed on one side. After contacting the auction for a refund the auction refused (although he had paid over £200 for an indemnity) as they said that HPI are reporting that the vehicle is "all clear" and they do not report on this type of damage. Amazing story as this affects thousands of vehicle purchasers not only who have purchased from Manheim Auctions but from all the other car auctions in the UK who use HPI as a checking service.

A spokesman for mycarcheck said "Who are HPI trying to protect? purchasers need to be given the facts, there are many many reasons why a stolen recovered vehicle should not be purchased" Security, id, the vehicle could have been used in a crime and carried drugs or even firearms, imagine explaining that to a Police or customs officer and you did not know that the vehicle had been stolen in the past, what if if there are traces of drugs found under the seats or even worse if you are stopped in a foreign country, frightening"
