Guide To Car Data Checks
Performing a check - Incorrect numbers
One of the most common problems for someone carrying out a vehicle history check, is that the registration number they enter for the car check comes back as either a different vehicle entirely or just returns the message "vehicle not found on our database".
The most common reason for this turns out to be that an incorrect number was entered initially by the person as very often numbers are given over the telephone and not taken down correctly.
E.g. the letter F sounds like S or vice-versa over the phone - that is why the phonetic alphabet should be used. Here are the words you should use instead of the letters when taking notes of a number plate:
- A - Alpha
- B - Bravo
- C - Charlie
- D - Delta
- E - Echo
- F - Foxtrot
- G - Golf
- H - Hotel
- I - India
- J - Juliet
- K - Kilo
- L - Lima
- M - Mike
- N - November
- O - Oscar
- P - Papa
- Q - Quebec
- R - Romeo
- S - Sierra
- T - Tango
- U - Uniform
- V - Victor
- W - Whisky
- X - X-Ray
- Y - Yankee
- Z - Zulu
